Dear Colleagues:
As President of and on behalf of The Protein Society, I invite your
corporation to sponsor a session or an event associated with The Protein
Society’s 20th Symposium, to be held August 5 - 9, 2006, in San
Diego, California.
In addition to the special session on “Proteins as Drugs”
organized by David Brems (Amgen), Andrea Cochran (Genentech), and
Christine Smith (Pfizer), we are instituting a new program for our sponsors
and attendees: “The Protein Scientist Recruiting Forum.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to submit resumes and research summaries
in PDF format to representatives from sponsoring entities who are seeking
employees. The Protein Society will provide facilities for company representatives
to interview selected individuals. This new meeting feature will give
you and your company the opportunity to hire excellent individuals before
they typically begin interviewing for positions in the Fall. We expect
more than 1,000 scientists from academic, industrial, and government
research laboratories to be in attendance.
The Protein Society’s Annual Symposium has a reputation for
excellence and, as you can see from the preliminary
program, our co-chairs, Dr. Art Horwich (Yale University) and
Dr. Ben Cravatt (The Scripps Research Institute), have put together
an exceptional program that continues this tradition. The 20th Symposium
will feature more than 50 invited speakers and sessions including single
molecule studies; dynamic post-translational modifications—beyond
phosphorylation; protein folding; biochemistry and structure of ion
channels; protein quality control; targeted proteomics; protein misfolding;
structure and mechanism of formation; receptors and signaling; macro-molecular
machines; dynamics in protein function; protein-protein interactions
at the synapse; protein design; and in vivo imaging/biosensors. An opening
plenary lecture by Dr. Roger Tsien (Howard Hughes Medical Institute
– University of California, San Diego) as well as a closing lecture
by Dr. Peter Schultz (The Scripps Research Institute) will be featured
along with two award plenary sessions.
The Protein Society’s Stein and Moore Award, sponsored by The
Merck Company Foundation, is conferred for contributions to the highest
level of the study of proteins. The 2006 Stein and Moore Award addresses
to be given at this meeting by the awardees, F. Ulrich Hartl, M.D. (Max-Planck-Institute
for Biochemistry) and Arthur Horwich, M.D. (Yale University), will feature
their discoveries and groundbreaking work on chaperone-assisted protein
folding.
We are seeking corporate sponsorship for a variety of highly visible
and well-attended events including the Opening Reception ($25,000),
Opening Plenary Session ($10,000), Closing Plenary Session ($10,000),
Scientific sessions ($7,500), and Coffee/Snack breaks ($5,000). Sponsorship
at the level of $7,500 and above enables participation in The Protein
Scientist Recruiting Forum. In addition, we are pleased to accept
support for numerous other deserving aspects of our meeting. Your general
sponsorship is an excellent investment that allows The Protein Society
to continue to offer a variety of events and services for its attendees
and to maintain the quality of these features. The Sponsor
Form provides more details.
